TraderHank goes 2 for 2 with his 5 minute buy in INTU

My 2nd play of the day was in INTU which I found while doing my 9:45 am wide range bar scan.  Not a perfect 9:45 bar because the first bar did not close solid, but I still put it on my list to watch.  Soon price action in INTU put in a small narrow range bar on the 5 minute chart with a bottoming tail, a nice little 5 minute PBS formed.  Since the market was also triggering a 5 minute buy, I entered as INTU triggered it's buy @ .71 with a full share size.  As the market rallied upward strongly, INTU rolled back over and took out the low of the bar that got me in the play.  I had my stop .05 cents further which kept me in the play as the QQQ continued its relentless upward climb, INTU finally recovered and started to move upward in what I like to describe as institutional buying.  I sold a few shares @ .83 since price was hitting a daily pivot line but my real target was back at the highs of the day @ $73.  I offered out @ .97 and with a little more than 1/3rd shares left I was able to unload most of my shares near the high @ .20 then I trailed my last remaining shares @ .11 cents.  This is a good example of why great plays are taken in the direction of the overall market. and maybe I should have left INTU off my list since the 9:45 bar was lacking.  Here is the chart for my play in INTU...

Tier II gap play in KO works well for TraderHank

Share Button

I had two really nice plays this morning, the first was in KO which I found as a bearish gap down before the market opened.  I rated the gap as a Tier II but it probably is a Tier I mortgage type gap which qualifies for an immediate entry.  Well, after the first 1 minute bar closed as a topping tail I entered under the low @.87.  I did not get the fill at first as the bid dropped off hard, then recovered hitting my fill.  KO as usual was a bit whippy but I hung on to watch price drop nicely.  I had several targets in mind the first was hit @ .72 where I sold quarter of my shares.  I then had to sit through a little pain as price looked as if it were going to rally, but finally KO rolled back over and headed lower hitting my second target @ .52.  At this point I had the day’s goal in and then some and I could not hold on as price bounced again so I trailed out of the play @ .54.  KO went on to hit my lower target of .32 but for a Tuesday morning after a Holiday, I’m happy!

A classic 15 minute buy taken in PCAR makes for a great Valentines gift for TraderHank

Friday I had a beautiful trade in PCAR that I found while doing my usual 9:45 am wide range bar scan.  PCAR had just ignited upward and never looked back until lunch time.  At 11:15 reversal time, PCAR triggered a picture perfect 15 minute buy that I entered with a full share size @ 61.07.  Price just rocketed upward allowing me to offer out at .24, .38, .50 .58 and finally trailing out of the play at 51.  A nicely profitable trade that puts the icing on my cake for this week of trading.  Here is the 15 minute chart for my play in PCAR…

Beautiful Shock Gap this morning in INTU

Share Button

I found INTU this morning while scanning for gaping stocks 15 minutes prior to the open.  In pre-market, the gap had not taken out the entire green bar from yesterday, but it still was a nice gap down surprise and by the time the market had opened INTU scored as a beautiful Tier II gap down.  You had to make up your mind to enter quickly or you would have missed the move.  I drilled down to the 1 minute chart where I found a green spinning bar or what I like to describe as a spinner with a topping and bottoming tail.  The next bar had a small topping tail and was red.  This pattern more than not usually is a GBI (green bar ignored) and can lead to a measured move lower and that is exactly what I got as I entered the trade at 72.55.  Price moved downward in a flurry as I took profits using my sell 1/2 button @ .07 and again @ 69.57, 69.26, and finally covering my last remaining shares @ .43 & .45, wow a huge run a full dollar and .29 cent move lower.  I’ve had few plays like this lately or have missed the entries, it feels good to finally nail it!  I played it cool the rest of the day, if dad was around I’d would have headed to the golf course…

KLAC got the job done for TraderHank

Share Button

My play of the day came in KLAC which formed a beautiful 9:45 am wide range bar.  Just as the market was heading into lunch @ 11:15 am reversal time KLAC triggered a beautiful 15 minute buy that I entered in with a small share size.  Price action moved like textbook and soon triggered a 2nd buy @ 12:45 pm where I added to my play and went to a full share size.  My targets were hit rather quickly @ .44, .50 and my last target was .73 but I trailed out of the play after a topping tail bar had formed @ .63.  The market has been up 5 days in a row and is certainly overdue for a pull back, thus I'm finding it harder to stay in my long plays until the targets are reached.  Here is the 15 minute chart for my play in KLAC...

I had a profitable day today and about a break even week of trading this week.  I chalk this up to making a few mistakes.  It's one thing to finally get your trading plan to the point that it's profitable, but it's entirely another to execute the plan properly.  This is the reason that it's hard to copy someone else's profitable plan and make it profitable for you.  You will never be able to execute someone else's plan as they do, it is best to learn a method of trading, such as the Pristine Method, and make your own plan. Anyway, I believe it is best to invest in a method, Versus buying a system, and from the method you will be able, in time, to figure out what kind of trader you are which will eventually lead you to a profitable plan.

Today, instead of writing about one of my fabulous plays, I thought I'd show you the one that kept me from having a profitable week of trading.  My trade in WAG today was found during my 9:45 am wide range bar scan, it was just beautiful but I knew that it needed some time to pull in since the hourly chart looked a bit over extended.  WAG finally came all the way into support where I started my play with a small share size.  A few 15 minute bars later WAG gave me an RBI (red bar ignored) where I went full share size as this bars high was taken out.  A few bars later I had a perfect setup in UAL that I had been waiting for all day but when I went to place my trade, I was out of buying power.  I had to make a choice, miss my full entry on UAL or sell something that was not performing.  I had two choices, close my short in LOW or sell my long in WAG, I chose to sell my long in WAG as it was heading to retest the low @ .40 (BTW my stop was .35, it never got there)  Long story short, LOW went on to stop me out with a full share size and here is the chart on WAG, it speaks for itself!

Watch TraderHank out maneuver Mayhem in his trade in Allstate…

I found ALL after the market opened while doing my 9:45 wide range bar scan.  ALL did not qualify to go on my 9:45 list but it did qualify for my Tier III gap list and I soon found my entry at 9:50 am reversal time on the 5 minute chart.  I entered with just 1 lot of 100 shares looking to add on the 2nd setup.  ALL took off for one 5 minute bar before rolling over and going sideways until 12:00 noon when price just rocketed upward to my long target of .45 cents where I had an offer to sell my one lot.  Sometimes they just go without giving you a chance to add on the play, so I decided to sit back and wait for the next 15 minute buy that triggers.  At 1:45 pm near the end of lunch time ALL triggered a 15 minute buy where I entered with a full share size.  It did not take long as ALL rocketed upward taking out my first target at the prior high @ .82 and my 2nd target @ .98.  I held on for a 3rd target of 52.25 but had to settle for .12 cents for my last 3rd.  A nice trade on this tough trading day where I ended down 1 risk unit for the day.  I’m about a break even on the week, I’m going to pull out all of my stops tomorrow and see if we can’t end the week with some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

15 minute buy in TWX today was fabulous for TraderHank

Share Button

This trade in TWX kind of reminds me of a quote from Mark Douglas’ book Trading in the Zone, “You must be rigid in your rules and flexible in your expectations” as I found TWX on my short list for a possible 9:45 am wide range bar play.  But the price action in TWX dictated the opposite as price found a bottom and rocketed upward negating the mornings beautiful wide range bar.  I would normally not even look at TWX for the rest of the day but the move was so outrageous, so powerful, price got my attention.  One of my main rules is that price must be above the prior days close for me to be able to trade the stock long.  As price in TWX took out the close and continued upward taking out yesterday’s highs, I had made up my mind that if/when price were to pull in, I’d be all over it.  Well, at 1:00 pm TWX triggered a perfect 15 minute buy and I was in full share size @ .86.  Price moved up rapidly hitting all 3 of my targets @ 63.14, .25 and .50 where the trade ended.  Wow, what a trade!

Gap Down Surprise in VZ made for a nice play this morning

Share Button

I found VZ on my Gap down list this morning, when scored it really did not make a Tier III, but with Friday’s big green bar on the daily, VZ was a very nice looking Gap Down Surprise.  I’ve forced myself to remember to put these types of plays on my list as they can be the genesis to a really terrific play.  VZ got my attention early as the first green bar was taken out by a red bar, this bearish 180 reversal is an excellent morning entry as price is already demonstrating confirmed weakness that a trader can take advantage of.  I entered with a full share size as the low of the first 5 minute green bar was taken out @ .22.  My first target was hit finally @ .02 but I had to be patient as price action was rather slow going lower.  I covered another 1/3rd @ .94 and my last 1/3rd as price excellerated lower into 10 am reversal time.  Now the mistake here was not waiting for a green bar to close on the 5 minute chart.  I gave up another .30 cents lower because of this, I should have waited for a 5 minute green bar to form and then wait for the high to be broken.  Great play but it could have been awesome!

A daily buy in XLNX makes TraderHank a few bucks…

With a bullish gap up in the market this morning in the Q's, it would only make sense to stay long.  My first play of the day was in XLNX just before 10 am as I took the first 5 minute buy that triggered.  Price action in XLNX is usually whippy and I avoid trading it usually, but today it was my only long stock on my list so I was forced into watching it.  It took awhile for price to get going but finally XLNX took off but later price pulled back below my entry price which did not allow me to get to a full share size on the play.  With my play continuing over lunch, I was still in a partial share size when finally I got a nice 15 minute buy setup above my opening price that I could get full on the play and raise my stop which happened about 1:45 pm EST. Now with full share size, stops, and targets in place, I watch as XLNX finally took off this afternoon hitting two of my targets before finally rolling over with the market.  This is what has become my bread and butter play for mid morning and afternoon plays.  Here is the 15 minute chart for my play in XLNX...
